Yes, I realize that it has been a long time since I last posted something on here. I just get busy and forget. Plus, it's easier to post to facebook these days. But, here I am today! Finally updating it. I had the opportunity to organize a photoshoot for an amazing group of photographers. We had a blast! I brought along 7 beautiful high school seniors (with the help of my totally awsome neighbor Kaylie) and we spent the day enjoying breadsticks, soup, and salad at Olive Garden then photographing to our hearts content. Senior photography is by far my favorite to do and I even had the opportunity to practice a little with my off camera flash. (Thanks Becky Earl!) It is very hard for me to limit what I post, but here are some of my favorites from the shoot...

I haven't posted in a such a long time. It has been a busy time for me and my family lately and I haven't taken the time to post much. But I couldn't resist this!!! I had the great privilege of photographing this fun senior today! I know she and her mom were excited to get a peek of the photos, so I had to put a few on here. We had such fun today despite the freezing wind and grey skies!!

By the way, Krista, I forgot to ask you if you have tried the honeydew melon and shrimp dish from PF Changs (Krista's favorite restaurant)? I know it sounds weird but if you haven't tried it, you need to!!! My husband and I had it the last time we were there and we really liked it! (We totally should have gone there for lunch! What were we thinking??? LOL) I hope you like the photos!!!! Let me know what you think!

So, I was tagged by Kim a while ago and totally missed it! Oops! So, here goes...

Ten years ago, I was...
living in the beautiful cement walled buildings of BYU student family housing, aka Wymount Terrace, aka the rabbit hutches, enjoying my beautiful 18 month old first daughter and spending the summer going to the pool, providing popsicles for my dh and his co-workers during their lunch breaks, and going back to Illinois to visit my family.

Five things on my to-do list...
1. Finish proofing photos
2. Finish proofing photos
3. Spend some time with my kids
4. Exercise
5. Finish proofing photos

A snack I enjoy...
in general right now I am avoiding "snacks" at all cost so fresh fruit is about all I get, but if I was being naughty I would say popcorn with extra butter and salt and sometimes a little nestle crunch mixed in for good measure!

Things I would do if I were a millionaire...
travel, for sure. Decorate my house exactly how *I* want it. Besides that, anything and everything I could for family and friends! I LOVE LOVE LOVE giving presents and surprising people. I could totally be a connoisseur of the best gifts to give. I'd also like to be a pro bono photographer. I would take pictures of anyone and everyone I wanted for FREE!!!!

My friend Nancy has tagged me. I'm supposed to give 7 facts about me. I'm not good at doing this kind of thing. I guess I'm just not very interesting or something. lol Well, here goes nothing...

1. I love to read young adult literature. My latest read was A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. Enjoyed it very much! Please share if you ever have a suggestion for me!!! I'm always looking for a new fabulous author!

2. I'm a "cool" color kind of person. There have been a lot of studies about this topic and all that I've read says that the majority of people are attracted to warmer colors (i.e. yellows, golds, oranges, creams, etc). Not me. I tend to lean toward the cool colors like blues, pinks, whites, greys, etc. Don't get me wrong. I like all of those, I just tend to gravitate toward the cool ones. (cool colors on left, warm on right)

3. Of all housework, I think I'd rather vacuum and do laundry then anything else. Which is funny because my husband tends to rather do the same. So, needless to say, we have to force ourselves to do the dishes and the bathrooms!

4. You can almost always find the following in my fridge... skim milk, eggs, a door full of condiments, romaine lettuce, and left overs. (thanks nancy)

5. I have had oatmeal for breakfast every day for the past month straight minus one day.

7. I would love it if musicals existed in real life. Like in Enchanted when they just break out into song and next thing you know the whole park is singing!!!! I'd LOVE that!!! (Oh, and can I just tell you that I was thrilled to find out that I am YOUNGER then Amy Adams, the girl who plays Gisele in the movie! Now, if only I was skinnier!! ha ha!)

I'm a little excited to see this movie. I enjoyed the books (though I don't think I'm as obsessive as it sounds like some people are! lol) and I'm hoping the movie represents the best parts. I like the thought of people disciplining themselves to be better then they were "born" or created to be. The sad part about it all - Robert Pattinson's hair! Ugh - not crazy about that! The kids playing Emmett and Jasper seem cool. I like the "Jasper's" comment about Harry Potter brooms!! Ha ha!

Amusing dream

I am a big believer of dreams - literally and figuratively. I had an actual dream last night that I thought I would share. I was at a restaurant with a bunch of old high school mates (several men and women) including one of my best friends at the time (Janna, for those who know her). We were chatting about other old acquaintances from school and church who were not there at the moment. Well, Janna looked at me and said, "I wonder about..." and then she blushed brightly (which she did well and often during high school - lol!) and her sentence trailed off. I sat there thinking, "Is she thinking of some former crush she had back when? Or maybe it was someone I had a crush on. (which was ten times more likely!!!)" I tried to get her to tell me who she was thinking of and she tried to give me hints without giving it away to the others around me. The clues were very odd and try as I might, I could NOT figure out who she was referring to. Well, right when I was ready to give up and try to get her to whisper it to me (though at the time, I was feeling that would be extremely rude in front of the others), our food came to our table and it all made sense and dawned on me!!!! She hadn't been talking about a person AT ALL!!! She had been talking about the food!!!!!!!!! HA HA HA!!! I started laughing out loud and everyone turned to stare at me and that's when I woke up. What a great twist, eh? I LOVE dreams. I love having them and trying to figure out what part of my sub-conscience could have come up with that particular entertainment. Gee, I wonder why anyone would dream about food????

More than just photos...

Weeks ago I had decided that I wanted to be more consistent with my blog and post more often and about more then just my photos. Well, surprise! It hasn't happened! lol I just get busy and caught up in everyday life. So, I'm starting now. I've decided to share a couple of things that have been on my mind lately. Don't get too excited now, I did say *MY* mind - never anything too exciting going on in there!!

First, I have decided that I have become way too much of a frumpy mom!!! This point was proven to me just yesterday when my youngest came home from preschool. As I was giving her a welcome home hug, she looked at me and said, "Mom, where did you go today?" I thought, how does she know I didn't stay home? I told her I went to a neighbors house. Then asked her, "How did you know I went somewhere?" She smiled and said, "Because, you have make-up and earrings!" Point taken. Today, I will be putting on make-up AND earrings... as soon as I get my shower... which will hopefully be before my husband gets home this afternoon.

Second. Those who know me, know I enjoy a few TV shows. I used to watch WAY too much TV!!! Impossible, you say??? Not Mary!!! Yes, yes, it is the sad, sad truth. So, I have had to discipline myself and now there is no more Today show or Oprah or anything during the day (unless one of the kids is watching a movie and I catch some of it, of course). But, I do enjoy an occasional American Idol (I know - there are many of you who hate this show, but I just can't help myself!!!) and Biggest Loser (the people on this show are so inspirational, if a bit scheming at times). Well, this year on AI, there has been this 17 yr old from Utah that I have just keep thinking I had seen before. Well, I finally discovered that I HAD seen him before. On Star Search years ago. Check him out...

I have to admit that I am a big fan. He seems like a good kid with an even better voice. Plus, (so sorry, D but it's the truth) he looks quite a bit like my brother-in-law! My kids even said it before I voiced the opinion outloud. My bil likes to deny this, but he might as well just be happy that he doesn't look like some of the other contestants!! ;) Ha Ha!

Here's my favorite he has sung so far. OH, and if for some reason I die in the near future, ask him to come sing For Good at my funeral, won't you? (check it out on you tube)

My dad surprised me about a month ago and asked me to go to Hawaii with him for a week. He needed a little getaway and thought I would be right companion. Hopefully, I didn't disappoint him!! We had fun walking along Waikiki beach, hiking up Diamond Head, snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, going to the Polynesian Cultural Center, and going to the North Shore (mostly Pipeline Beach) to take photos of the surfers. Thanks Dad for the fun trip!!!

These next few photos are from the Polynesian Cultural Center. They don't allow flash photography so I had my shutter speeds soooooo slow (sometimes 1/8th of second)!!! Needless to say, I had to hold very still. These are the ones that turned out the best. The PCC rocked!!!

Now on to the surfing. They certainly start young and impressive as illustrated in these first two photos. The first four photos are from the first day we went to watch and I thought the squalls were decent sized. The rest of the photos are from the day we left to head home and a professional photographer I chatted with told me the day was one of only three really good days of the season. So, the squalls were HUGE. I'm not even sure if I captured the biggest ones.

I was playing around in photoshop with this one. It's a little different.

No one fell off of their board in any of the following photos. :)

I'm supposed to tell 8 things about myself that my blog readers (um... do I have blog readers????) probably don't know and then tag eight other photographers. (totally don't know 8 other photographers who haven't already been tagged!) So, up until this point, my blog has just been photos with a comment or two about those photos. This is new for me. I'm not sure anyone will really be interested in this, but here goes nothing...

1 - I am easily entertained. I'm not one of those picky type of people when it comes to entertainment. So, maybe this list will be about things that entertain me.

2 - I LOVE LOVE LOVE musicals!!! My favorite growing up was The Sound of Music. Once my aunt asked my mom to find out what my favorite movie was. (She wanted to get for me for Christmas.) I was proabably about 13. When my mom told her that it was The Sound of Music, my aunt thought my mom was totally lying to her!!!! My current favorite musical is WICKED!!!

3 - I LOVE sappy movies. Romantic comedys are the best! My poor husband! Some of my favorites are You've Got Mail, Two Weeks Notice, While You Were Sleeping, Runaway Bride, and ALL Jane Austin type movies - the six hour long Pride and Predjudice among the top faves!

4 - Books - I can read a deep/serious/non-fluff book only once in a while. I don't think I'm an all fluff person, but when it comes to books, I'd much rather a fluffy sweet simple funny book. I also like action. Some of favorite authors are listed in the side bar.

5 - Music!!! I LOVE ALL kinds of music - well, almost all. Classical, pop, jazz, big band (my dad likes this and got me into it), classic rock, r&b, religious, techno, folk, hip hop/rap, and most of my favorite songs come from some soundtrack or another. Currently, I've been listening to the Hairspray soundrack a lot and Colbie Calliat, Josh Groban, Seseme Street songs (don't knock it - some of those are GOOD) and I'm ALWAYS listening to COUNTRY!

6 - Ok, TV entertainment. I don't watch a ton of tv. I used to watch it all the time - talk shows like Oprah and the Today show and ER and reality shows (I know!!!) and lots more. Now? I just don't have time. I do like to watch American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance with my oldest daughter. She and I went to the American Idol Tour concert and on our way to the show ran into Phil and Sanjiya (sp?). She and I also met Taylor Hicks last year at the Stadium of Fire practice. It was fun. I also watch the news sometimes - but not too much, it's too depressing.

7 - The Internet. I spend WAY too much time on the internet. I've been trying to be better in controling my time online. I love to check out other people's blogs and photography forums and read about people and find old friends and keep in touch with my family. So many things to do SO LITTLE TIME!!!!

8 - My kids! My kids are the most entertaining things around!!! They are constantly cracking me up and putting a smile on my face. They love to all dance together and "perform" for my hubby and I. They never tire of answering the door! If there's someone at the door (even if it's just me!) they get so excited! Maybe in the future, I'll share more specific things about how they entertain me.

Well, there you have it. I bet no one made it through that whole thing!!!! Ha ha!!! I seriously don't think I know 8 more photographers who haven't been tagged yet. - I looked and I don't. I don't want to end it with me, but I'm afraid it might have to. If I find someone who hasn't been tagged, I'll come back.

Hey all y'all!!!
So, last week I got to shoot this adorable girl, A! She looked absolutely fabulously gorgeous and was so fun to work with! She's a natural model!!!! My talented and fun friend Audry came along to do make up. This is a new service that is now offered for senior sessions for an additional fee. It is well worth it!!!!! I'm also working on arranging for a hair stylist also. This is a great way to look your best for some of the most important portraits you may ever do!

Pink Stilettos

This past Saturday, I got to meet three beautifully talented young women. They are a singing group called The Pink Stilettos. It was so fun for me to photograph them. Marianne is the youngest and I swear she was smiling during the ENTIRE performance. I was very impressed! :) Then Angela is in the middle, age wise, that is. (I'm so sorry I kept forgetting your name Angela!!! I usually don't have that problem, don't know what the deal was!) She's actually on the right in the first collage. You can just see she has a spunky personality. Then Allison (I have no idea if I've spelled your names correctly. Please forgive me if I didn't!!) is the oldest of the group and a great performer. You can tell these girls have a ton of potential! I'm just hoping someday I'll be able to say, "I photographed the famous Pink Stilettos!" :) Can't wait till Wednesday!!! I get to take more photos of them then! Here are a few of the ones from Saturday's performance.

This little girl was so cute. She just parked herself right in front of the stage and watched intently. You could tell she really enjoyed watching them!!!

We took just a few minutes to take some photos afterward. It was definitely NOT the most ideal lighting, but it was still a lot of fun! I'm not sure a person could take a bad photo of these girls. They are all so pretty!

A priviledge...

I had the wonderful priviledge of being invited along on a special and very fun shoot. My friend Wynona (http://www.wynonarobison.typepad.com/) is a photographer who has started a special project. I asked if I could be a part of it and she graciously agreed. We will be doing photo sessions for families who have a member of their family born with a cleft lip. My second daughter was born with a cleft lip and palate. It was discovered during a routine ultrasound. I remember when we found out, I did a lot of research online. I didn't find very many photos and those I did find were very medical and factual (usuing a term from Wynona - sterile). But, what I hoped for was to find evidence that these children had normal healthy loving...amazing lives. So, that's what the project is all about.

This shoot was of a beautiful family!!! James and Anna have been blessed by two beautiful and fun boys. Both of whom were born with cleft lips. Since the day I took these, the littlest has had surgery to install a prothesis and has had his lip repair. He'll never look like this again. I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to do this.

James, Anna, and boys - Thank you for letting me be a part of your lives for a day! It was a wonderful priviledge!!!

Remember L from my recent engagement shoot? Well, I got to do her bridals last Saturday. It was so fun and I ended up with so many photos of her! She was just gorgeous! I'm so excited to post them, but I won't. What a tease I am, eh??? I decided to wait until after the wedding on Saturday because I know L didn't want T to see her in her dress before the big day and I couldn't post them and then find out later that T somehow saw them! I would feel horrible! So...stay tuned!!!!

"L" is the newest newborn I've ever had the priveledge to photograph. And I can say that I LOVED every minute of it! I still have much to learn about finding the best angles to capture a newborn, but finding that sweet face in my viewfinder was so fun. Who couldn't just LOVE that hair??!!! I know his mom was worried that he was difficult because he wouldn't go to sleep, but trust me, I didn't mind one bit! So, here he is...

Hey all! I have planned on updating this weekly but we'll see how that goes. I'm hoping tomorrow I can post some photos I've been working of my little bro (and family) from his graduation that happened in December. (I'm such a horrible sister that I haven't finished them before now!!!)

But, for now, here are more photos of A. I finally finished proofing and the proofs should be in the mail soon!

My first time blogging...

So, here it is. I've officially started a blog. Why, you ask? Well, I wanted a way to communicate with more than one person (all my family and friends - cuz I have SO MANY, you know!) at a time AND so that I could post my photos while proofing. That way my clients get the opportunity to see their photos asap! Before I start adding photos and what-not, I'd like to take this time to thank all the wonderful people who made this blog possible...

First, I'd like to thank Melissa Davis for attempting to help me get this started - even if I am too dense to understand most things about computers to use the information she provided. Also, my other Utah photography friends: Sandy Landon, and Alicia Ekstrom for the photos they took of me that will be some day on this blog.

Next, I'd like to thank my uncle, Jeff Denton for helping me...ok, for actually doing the changes to the html to make this blog how I wanted it. You're the best!

Also, I'd like to thank my brother Sam, my sister-in-law Rachel, my sister-in-law Beth, Nancy, Rebecca, and occasionally my bro Steve and sil Utahna for chatting with me online and making me feel loved.
